My First Flight

I was rejoiced when I heard that I would be traveling to US for a new project at OMR, Princeton. I didn’t want to miss this opportunity and wanted to experience the best out of it. At the same time I was slightly tensed at the very thought that I would be working with the Client. But the courage fed by my parents and colleagues helped me in making this trip a memorable one.

I started from Hyderabad along with my lead Praveen Gupta on 6th June 2003 with a warm send off by parents and well wishers. Though it was a long and tiresome journey, I really enjoyed my first flight. I was peeping through the window to have a glimpse of those green trees, brown lands and blue waters playing hide and seek through the beautiful clouds.

It was the evening of Saturday, 7 June, when we reached Newark (NJ) and were driven to Princeton. Princeton is a beautiful place, full of greenery everywhere. Pretty houses with lawns in front, beautifully decorated with flowers & toys, amidst ponds made me feel like "Alice" in Wonderland. I had never been to such a place before!!

On Monday morning, we went to ADP-OMR office located at the Business Park Drive. We received a warm welcome from Akiko Mimura, who guided us through out the project. She introduced us to the other team members whom we had to interact with, in the coming days. First few days we were trained on the Product. Our job involved understanding the product and preparing the Test Assets for performing Regression Testing on various releases of the Product. After the training, we started to work by preparing the Test conditions and Test Plans.

The work culture at Client site impressed us a lot. People were courteous and helpful both professionally and personally. We never felt that we were at a new place away from home.

During weekends we visited New York, Washington DC and Atlantic City. We went to the Oak Tree Road at Edison, where there are lots of Indian shops and Restaurants. Also, we visited the Princeton University: the place where Great scientist Albert Einstein lived most of his life. We were lucky enough to see his house too.
2 months passed by very quickly. The day of our return came. We started back on 9th August with fond memories of such a wonderful place and kind people.
